Search Engine Friendly URLs |
Let's hope they are so friendly as they say...
At TwistedPolygon we've been using Apache's URL rewrite since the dawn of times because I was afraid to just rewrite the thousands of pages in the site and make something readable and understandable out of those URLs. Today I finally gave up to SEO and found a way to loose all of our Google/Yahoo/MSN indexed pages with little to no work.
From now on there will be no more evil urls like: http://www.twistedpolygon.net/content/view/335/54/ as they will be replaced by stuff that looks like: http://www.twistedpolygon.net/news/console/ps3-finally-hits-uk-shelves.html
The process is dynamic which means: a)Requires some MySql work going around so it represents a little more load into the servers. b)Not all the links are automatically rewritten. The old ones are replaced by the new "intelligent" ones when you click on them... Just stop reading and go around pressing links! c)Stuff will eventually broke. If you get broken pages, strange 404 pages just drop us a mail.
Let's hope the Search Engines like our new URLs and find them quickly enough.
