Two Crude Dudes by Data East Author: DJ Tigresa and MC Pantera Email: djtigresa@classicgaming.com, mcpantera@classicgaming.com Story Excellent arcade action comes home to the Genesis. One or two player (simultaneous) action awaits as you control the force regaining what remains of New York City from a madman. As Biff or Spike, Two Crude Dudes, you must fight the hundreds of thugs in the “Big Valley” organization, each mutated by a mad scientist. Five stages lead you through warehouses, back alleys and subways in search of the mad scientist. Plenty of fighting moves provide your only offense against the enemy. Grab Power Cola to increase your energy. Stage One: The Seedy Part of Town -This Walkthrough is written with the difficulty set to Normal (default). Playing with a different difficulty setting may cause slight changes, but we didn’t spot any. In a two-player simultaneous game you won’t hit each other in the Easy mode. -Practice your moves, and try different moves by pressing various but ton combinations. -There are many items throughout each stage that you can pick up and throw. Try to time your throws to hit the maxi mum number of enemies. -The first boss Is Heavy Snake. The jump kick is your most effective move. Each time you kick him he’ll jump up into the air and over your hair. Duck and wait for him to land, then jump kick him again. When he throws his snake to the ground it will try to attack you, but a quick kick will knock it off the screen. If the snake does grab you, press A, B and C rapidly to shake it loose. -The bonus stage is next. Jump kick the Power Cola machine rapidly to gain points. When the clock reaches 15 seconds drink the sodas you’ve collected. Stage Two: Highway -Although they may look too heavy for even the Two Crude Dudes, you can pick up the cars and throw them at the enemies. The jump kick is still the most effective attack against your enemies. -Be careful not to kick the Power Cola machine too many times or it will blow up before you have a chance to power-up on sodas. -A mini-boss is located near the end of this stage. He’s Armour-Duo, and you’ll know you’re fighting him because there’ll be an enemy ener gy bar at the bottom center of the screen. Stand on the platform at the center of the screen to avoid him while he’s rolling. When he stops and pants in exhaustion, pick him up and toss him, then jump back up to the platform and repeat. -The boss for Stage Two Is the Master Reaper. Move to the opposite level he’s on, then jump down behind him and attack. Stage Three: Abandoned Warehouse -When the dogs appear, jump kick quickly and rapidly. If they bite you, press A, B and C rapidly to get away. -The mini-boss is Cyborg D. He jumps high between attacks, then opens his automatic arm- rifle and blasts you. Jump kick him as he reaches the ground, then back off and wait for him to repeat his pattern. -The boss Is Rhino-Man. As you might expect, he bows his head down and charges you. You can’t jump over or duck under his horn, and you’ll usually get hurt if you try to jump kick him. The best strategy is to take the hit when he charges you. He’ll stop for a second after impact, allowing you an opportunity to pick him up and throw him. Stage Four: Back Alley -The first mini-boss Is Hand Sniper. He has an arm that stretches to grab you from a distance. In the area where he appears there’s an incline in the background. Stand at the bottom of the incline and face right, then jump kick to the right when he approaches and walk back down the incline. Repeat this pattern until he’s history. -A second mini-boss appears past the halfway mark. It’s a Santa Imposter, and he’s replaced the toys in his bag with bombs. Use the jump kick and throw to attack him while avoiding his bombs. -The boss Is Tiny Leo. He appears as a variation of a Gill brother, dressed in black, but he soon shows his true colors when he transforms into a blood-sucking werewolf. The quickest way to drain his energy is to allow him to hit you as you grab and throw him.. You’ll sustain some damage, but the alternative attacks cause much more damage to you and less to him. Stage Five: The Subway -Near the beginning a fleet of Flying Bikes will airlift new enemies to challenge you. Press up and C to jump high, then press A to grab the Flying Bike. With it you can knock out all three of the enemies it just dropped. -After fighting the Flying Bikes and the Black Gill brothers, an arrow will appear at the bottom of the screen. Press down while standing above it to climb down a ladder. You’ll be attacked by a Cyborg D2, which sheds its skin leaving only an endoskeleton. While in this state he’ll throw his head. Avoid it, then grab him and throw him. -The hunchbacks are similar to the dogs. If they get a hold of you, press A, B and C rapidly to shake them loose, then jump kick rapidly. -The boss for this stage Is Nail Spider. Stand on the platform at the center and jump kick him to the floor. While he’s on the ground throw him off the right side of the screen, then stand near the right and duck to avoid his webs. Repeat this pattern until he’s squashed. With two people this is a very easy battle, with one person staying on the platform to jump kick while the other does the throwing. -After completing Stage Five you’ll have to battle a group of each enemy, then all of the bosses one last time, in order. They are the same as before, so refer to the other stage headings in this chapter for tips. After defeating Tiny Leo for the second time, the Mad Scientist makes his entrance. After a few tears he attacks you. Rough him up a bit, then prepare for a mean battle. He trans forms into a large lizard- like monster. His attack is rapid and varied, so your only defense is to give him a sampling of every move you know. Jump kicks are still about the best offense. Upon defeating him you’ll be treated to a cool ending sequence nearly as good as the opening.
