Brutal Sports Football by Teque Author: DJ Tigresa and MC Pantera Email: djtigresa@classicgaming.com, mcpantera@classicgaming.com Originally made by us in mid 90s ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INTRODUCTION ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This game isn’t football—it’s really a combination of rugby, soccer, and football—but it certainly is brutal, thanks to the fact that you can kill the opposing team’s players, and vice versa. Blood flies, heads roll, and dead players litter the field as the game grinds on. It’s a conversion of an aging computer game, so Brutal Sports Football doesn’t take advantage of the Jaguar’s buff hardware, but it’s still decent fun. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FORMATIONS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One of the most important strategies in BSF is to change your formation to suit the game situation. Here’s what you get to choose from: Press the 1 button to select the Defense forma tion. This places all your players on your half of the field, This is a wise choice when you’ve got a big lead and want to be a big wimp—er, play it safe. Press the 2 button to select the Normal forma tion. It spreads your team out in defensive, mid field, and offensive positions. Press the 3 button to select the Aggressive formation. This places your players on the opponent’s half of the field, several of them in front of the goal. Use this when you need some quick scor ing, or if you have a lead and want to keep the other team busy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Playing Strategies ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the Unfriendly mode, the animal teams are the best choices. The best power-ups are the Lightning, Ice Cube, Fist, and Rabbit.Avoid the Tortoise power-up. When your goalie gets the ball, kick it down field. The sooner you get the ball far away from your goal, the better. Pass the ball around near the goal to confuse the computer (or human) opponent and open up a player for an easy shot. Try this amusing goal-scoring technique: kick the ball at the opponent’s goal, and when the goalie catches the ball, tackle him into his own goal. If you’re losing big, try killing everyone on the other team. It’s a cheap way to win, but it works. Concentrate on killing the opponent’s goalie. Once he’s dead, it’s much easier to score goals. Here’s how the different BSF player control options work: Novice:The computer automatically selects the player you control, generally the closest player to the ball. Beginner: Same as Novice, except you can press the OPTION button to lock in control of the current player. The computer won’t switch players until you press OPTION again. Intermediate: Same as Novice, except the com puter won’t switch players until you release all the buttons and the control pad. Advanced: Same as Intermediate, except you can press the OPTION button to lock in control of the current player. The computer won’t switch players until you press OPTION again and release all the buttons and the control pad. Expert:The computer doesn’t select players for you. You have to press the OPTION button to toggle control through the different players. Here’s how money is awarded by the game after each match. You get 25,000 per head, whether you win or lose the match; you get 20,000 per goal only if you win the match. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Locker Room ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The BSF manual is rather lacking when it comes to describing the locker room, so here’s the information Telegames forgot to include. There are nine players on your team, but only seven of them play in a game. The one player who starts every game is player #1, the goalie. When you select the Locker Room option, you enter a screen with the team members in treatment chambers. At first, all players are selected, but you can press Left and Right on the control pad to select individual players. The first task is to find your best six players other than #1. If a player is standing up, he’s in good health; if he’s kneeling, he’s in pain; and if he has a bandage where his head used to be, he’s dead. You can more precisely judge a player’s health by looking at the red oval next to his number, and the green meter above his head. The larger the oval (or meter) the healthier the player. Once you’ve found your six healthiest players, you need to heal them. Press Left or Right on the con trol pad to select a player, then press the B button to close the treatment door. Now you can select the cross (to boost health), the jagged line (to increase speed), and the helmet (to attach a head to a dead player). Remember that after your first match, the #8 and #9 players are still at full strength, so you can save a little dough. Start with your goalie and move on to each player, boosting their health until they’re at full strength or you’re out of money. If you still have dinero to burn, or you don’t want to spend it all on health, boost your players’ speed, again starting with the goalie. Press the A button to select your players for the next game. A red light appears above a selected player. Don’t leave your goalie out of the game! When you’re satisfied with your team, press Left or Right until all the players are selected, Press Down twice until EXIT appears, and press B to leave.
