Deus Ex/Thief overlord to make games'n'films with John Woo. About ninjas. Ninjas!
Warren Spector's very good at turning stereotype on its head. He's at it again, now with timeless conspiracy theory/comedy of Nazi gold. But with ninjas. His next game, it turns out, is called Ninja Gold. And it's about modern-day ninjas and the Russian mob fighting about gold. Brilliant!
There's no details, or even a guesstimated release date, for the game yet, but what we do know is that kingbeard Spector is working with John Woo on it. Yes, that's John Woo as is Hard Boiled, Face/Off and gratuitous use of doves flying through fire fame. The plan is for Ninja Gold to appear in cinematic as well as, uh, gameic form, with Spector bagging an Executive Producer credit on the film. Of course, that's a title that can mean anything from calling the ultimate shots to ruffling the director's hair when asked to Still, Woo's film expertise and Spector's game expertise poured into one big pot'o'ninjas is exciting stuff indeed. Quoth Warren: "My thought from the start was to develop something that would work just as well in games as in movies, and I know John was thinking along the same lines. This was an attempt to create a concept that would work in, and be developed for, a variety of media simultaneously. That's something new for games -- and for movies." Well, apart from Chronicles of Riddick, though the paucity of the film in that case somewhat let the side down. Anyway, more news on Ninja Gold (will that ever stop being funny?) as we have it.
